The University of La Rioja offers a 2024 Summer Course program made up of 17 courses, in-person and online, which will take place during the months of June, July and September and which include three activities for minors within the Junior Campus.

The activities of the UR 2024 Summer Courses take place from June 5 to September 18 in Arnedo, Calahorra, Logroño, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Cornago, Igea and Treviana, as well as in the Swiss city of Geneva. All courses are managed by the University of La Rioja Foundation.

The activities included in the UR 2024 Summer Courses program are structured into four large blocks: the training courses framed in the Transformation Plan of the Government of La Rioja; the courses organized by the UR in collaboration with other entities; the training organized by the University of La Rioja; and activities for minors.

Courses on Language Valley and Enorregion

Firstly, the training that is part of the Transformation Plan of the Government of La Rioja, which aims to promote two of the strengths for which La Rioja is known in the world: the Spanish language and wine, and to do so has developed two framework programs that encompass different activities, which are: the Language Valley and the Enorregion.

The Valley of Language presents four training activities this summer: ‘Read today’, which began the program from June 5 to 7; ‘Digital Dictionaries in Spanish: From Corpus to Generative Artificial Intelligence’, which will take place on June 21; ‘Current reading experiences’, June 26-28; and ‘Science communication: from Spanish to the world. 10th Summer School on the History of Chemistry’, which will take place from July 10 to 14.

For its part, Enorregión presents the Course ‘History of wine: from ancient civilizations to La Rioja’, which will take place on June 19.

These training courses delve into the use of Spanish in literary, technological and scientific areas, promoting its dissemination and highlighting a language that is now universal and that began to materialize in La Rioja more than ten centuries ago.

The UR in collaboration with other entities

In this section, the University of La Rioja carries out training actions in collaboration with the Civil Guard and the town councils of Logroño, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Arnedo and Calahorra.

In the case of the Logroño City Council, on July 1 the Course ‘Navigating towards the Future: Digitalization Day for Logroño Commerce’ organized by the Chair of Commerce is held, an active instrument for the development of that sector in the capital of Rioja . In collaboration with the Civil Guard, this year the conference ‘Disinformation in the context of security’ is presented, which will be held between July 10 and 12.

In the case of the Santo Domingo de la Calzada City Council, the Philosophy Course reaches its twentieth edition, which from July 15 to 19 is dedicated to ‘Panorama of the philosophy of Gustavo Bueno on the occasion of his centenary’. For its part, together with the Arnedo City Council, this year the thirtieth edition of the ‘City of Arnedo’ Course is organized. Population and migratory movements in today’s world: perspectives and challenges’, which takes place from September 9 to 13. Finally, The seventeenth course is presented next to the Calahorra City Council, which from September 16 to 18 is dedicated to ‘The tourist attraction of bimillennial cities’.

UR courses

Regarding the University of La Rioja’s own and traditional training, the Course ‘Youth, peace and security: participation of young people in the transition towards a new world order’ stands out from July 1 to 4 in Geneva (Switzerland), on the one hand.

On the other hand, the Course ‘Gender inequality in different areas of life and society. Awareness raising and good practices’, which will be held from July 2 to 3 at the University of La Rioja (Logroño).

In addition, the Rioja town of Treviana hosts from July 17 to 19 the XIII Romanesque Days: social, cultural and religious context of Romanesque art.

Finally, from August 19 to 31, the ‘Dinosaur Icnitas’ Work Camp will take place at the Igea site and the Cornago municipal hostel, in which dinosaur footprints will be studied to learn about the formation processes of these fossils and their relationship with the physical behavior of the soil.

JUNIOR CAMPUS

Finally, the University of La Rioja dedicates its Junior Campus to minors, with three activities for children and young people between 4 and 16 years old with the aim of meeting their leisure needs and contributing to family conciliation: Ludoteca Peque UR, on 24 from June to July 31; the Urban Camp: Scientific Superheroes, from June 24 to July 26; and the Technological Campus: Skills for the future (TICandBOT), from June 24 to August 2.
