Rome (Agenzia Fides) – Migration, human rights violations, peace, environmental protection are some of the issues that the Working Group for Colombia (GTC) is addressing these days in Rome to consolidate peace and social justice in the Latin American country.

“I am a bit the hands and feet of the social work that we carry out as a Group in the process of transforming the Colombian territory,” declares the Bishop of Tibù Israel Bravo Cortés in an interview given to Fides Agency. “The Working Group helps us gain visibility in the international community and carry out much of our work. In the meeting with Pope Francis on June 12, the Pontiff described Colombia as a noble country, of beautiful people, of workers, but we cannot forget that there is enormous suffering due to the violence that has gripped us for more than 70 years. years,” adds the bishop who is a member of the Colombian Episcopal Commission.

As the Colombian Caritas Social Pastoral emphasizes, concerted action is urgently needed to achieve peace and justice in the country, addressing current problems from a perspective of solidarity, spirituality and international collaboration.

The group, made up of representatives of Cáritas from Norway, England and Wales, Scotland, Spain, Germany, the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the Social Pastoral -Cáritas Colombiana, has held a series of meetings in Rome on 12 to June 14, with the objective of placing, on the international agenda, the most critical issues of the Colombian reality and strengthening the results of the collaboration during its 32 years of existence.
