This Friday, the Office in Colombia of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights highlighted the agreement that was reached between the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) and the Association of Traditional Authorities of the Regional Indigenous Council of Huila (CRIHU), made up of Nasa, Misak, Yanacuna, Embera Chami, Inga, Andaquíes, Tama and Pijao peoples, in order to work to prevent the forced recruitment of minors.

The meetings to reach this agreement were held between Wednesday and Thursday in Hobo, Huila, and were accompanied by UN Human Rights.

The Office recalled that childhood lasts until the age of 18 and before this age “all recruitment is forced”.

Within the framework of this week’s meetings, the ICBF confirmed that it will work on the construction of a protection house for indigenous children, as well as guarantees that there are routes for prevention and protection.

The institute also committed to a protection analysis with a differential approach and to provide attention to families prioritized by the Association of Traditional Authorities of the Regional Indigenous Council of Huila, as reported by UN Human Rights.
