After 45 years of use, the current snow plow at Balmaceda airport has expired. Since 1978, this Unimog vehicle, powered by Mercedes Benz, fulfilled the mission of removing snow that settled on the landing strip.
The years of life of this snow plow came to an end and that is why the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics requested a budget item that could provide the main air terminal in the region with a new vehicle, according to the new characteristics of the airport, which has a longer track.

The deterioration is evident after four decades of providing services, with a truck that no longer meets the current requirements of an air terminal in the process of growth.

Finally, the acquisition of a new snow sweeper was approved by the plenary session of the Regional Council, for an amount of 917 million 610 thousand pesos, equipment that will have the most modern features for efficient cleaning work on cold winter days.

According to the latest statistics, Balmaceda Airport has a movement of approximately 600 thousand passengers each year, with peak seasons in summer and winter holidays, with the arrival of students.
The snow plow represents a step forward for timely clearance of the runway, ensuring a safe landing for those traveling from the border town to different parts of the country.
