The Meteorological Directorate of Chile reported that the town of Balmaceda, in the Aysén region, reached the historic temperature figure, becoming the coldest place on the planet on this day.

This Monday, June 24, Chile became the scene of the coldest place on the planet. The town of Balmaceda, located in the Aysén region, recorded a minimum temperature of -21.9 °C, being the lowest in the world during the day.

The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) reported through its X account (formerly Twitter) that at 06:38 in the morning, the Balmaceda Aerodrome Meteorological Station recorded this historic temperature.

The meteorological organization clarified that the extreme temperatures of Antarctica are not considered for this record. For example, at Concordia Base they reached -71.7 °C on the same day. These temperatures, due to their extremely inhospitable and isolated nature, are handled in a separate category.

With this new record, Balmaceda joins the list of towns that have experienced extreme temperatures, remembering the importance of preparation and resilience in the face of inclement weather.time.
