“Let’s not lose focus”: Luis Caputo’s message to Argentines after knowing the inflation data

Yesterday the information about inflation in May, which was 4.2%. In this way, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell by more than half from one month to the next. This news was the icing on the cake for the Government that had obtained the approval of the Base Law a few hours before. The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputoexpressed himself about it and sent a wink to the people.

And he concluded: “Let’s not lose focus, because there will always be difficulties, but the important thing is that the course is not going to change. And if we do not change the course, we are going to get where we set out to be. And if the businessmen and the ordinary people accompany us, we are going to get there much faster”.

The message of Caputo It comes at a time when, although they scored several points at the macroeconomic level, social unrest is growing as a result of thin pockets. Purchasing power is very deteriorated and salaries cannot be restored.

May inflation, the icing on the cake

Finally, there were no surprises and it confirmed the speech that the Government has been proclaiming that May would mark a substantive drop in the inflation compared to the previous month’s data. Thus, last month the consumer price index remained at 4.2% compared to the previous month, and accumulates 71.9% in the first five months of the year.

In the last twelve months, it still remains at levels of 276.4%, The National Institute of Census Statistics (Indec) reported this Thursday. The Government understands that in the second half of the year the year-on-year decrease will be much more consistent.

An encouraging fact is that the inflation core, that which takes the prices of the economy, but without considering regulated prices and seasonal products and services, remained at 3.7% in May. For their part, regulated ones grew 4.0% and seasonal ones by a consistent 7.2%.
