With different activities in various parts of the province, Córdoba celebrated World Blood Donor Day with more than 200 people who came to donate.

This collection was organized jointly by the Blood Bank of the Province of Córdoba, the Municipal Blood Center, the UNC Blood Bank, the Blood Products Laboratory, the Central Blood Bank Foundation and the Red Cross.

This year, the World Health Organization proposes the motto “20 years celebrating generosity: Thank you very much, blood donors!”, with the purpose of recognizing and thanking to voluntary unpaid donors, and raise awareness of the need to make regular donations to ensure universal access to safe blood transfusions.

During the celebration, the Minister of Health of Córdoba, Ricardo Pieckenstainer, expressed: “Donating blood is a very valuable gesture that It involves a number of resources that remain invisible. There are many institutions and health teams that are involved, and we have the obligation to convey the need to have more donors, as well as the obligation to have the most absolute responsibility for the rational use of this resource.”

Furthermore, the Minister recognized the work of the Red Cross not only in the community, but within the health system and in the lives of all the people to whom they provide support.

For his part, Carlos Santucho, president of the Córdoba Red Cross branch, said: “Today is a very special day in which we want to thank and place emphasis on the people who came to donate blood, and on all the institutions and authorities that support us.”

Meanwhile, Andrea Carpaneto, in charge of the Department of the Provincial Blood System of the Province, highlighted: “Today our province is at the forefront, since we have a provincial blood law, a blood department that supervises Hemotherapy services and a provincial central laboratory that is a reference, which carries out and audits blood serology studies. “blood banks”.

It should be noted that the event in Capital included the participation of Ecodaic, which registered donors of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells (HPC), better known as bone marrow.

During the day, a recognition plaque was presented to the Association of Transfusion Medicine for its career and continuous improvement of the specialty.

Likewise, a diploma was delivered in recognition of their work to the Argentine Red Cross Córdoba branch, the UNC Blood Bank, the Municipal Blood Bank, the Central Blood Bank Foundation, the province’s Blood Bank, ECODAIC and the Laboratory of Blood Products.

During the celebration, the secretary and undersecretary of Health, Carlos Giordana and Sebastián Faule, were present; the director of the Capital hospital, José D’Angelo; the head of the Blood Bank, Luciano Slobodianiuk; along with members of the health team.

Safe Blood Program

The Safe Blood Program implements the modality of external collections to promote voluntary donation.

Every month, a day schedule in which blood banks look for voluntary donors, in alliance with other institutions, such as municipalities, cooperators, companies, churches, among others.

It should be noted that you can donate blood throughout the year at the Blood Bank, requesting an appointment by WhatsApp at 351-2480189, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Inside, you can attend hemotherapy services at the regional hospitals in the towns of Bell Ville, Villa María, Laboulaye, Jesús María, Villa Dolores, Mina Clavero, Río Cuarto, San Francisco, Cruz del Eje, La Carlota, Villa del Rosario, Marcos Juárez, Santa Rosa de Río Primero, Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, Río Tercero, Alta Gracia, Deán Funes, Corral de Bustos, Unquillo, Huinca Renancó and Villa Caeiro.

Requirements to donate blood

  • Be between 18 and 65 years old.
  • Weigh more than 50 kilos.
  • Feel healthy.
  • Attend with DNI, identity card or passport.
  • Prior rest of at least six hours.
  • After the Covid-19 vaccine you must wait 72 hours to donate.
  • If you had coronavirus you must wait 30 days to donate.
