New massacre in Cauca claims the lives of three men

A new act of violence occurred on the night of last Friday, June 14, in the department of Cauca. According to the Institute of Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz), a group of heavily armed individuals murdered three men in the municipality of Miranda, and then left them lying on a public road, in the heart of the urban area.

So far, the identity of two of the deceased is known, who responded to the names of Jhonny Gómez González and Jhon Álvaro Sánchez, and who according to preliminary information would be homeless people.

Mayor’s Office officials indicated that according to witnesses, one of the victims was a young man who had recently arrived in Miranda.

For its part, the Ombudsman’s Office reiterated the alert about the presence and territorial control of armed groups in the area, which has generated a wave of violence and insecurity for the inhabitants of the municipality.

“In the territory located between the south of Valle del Cauca and the north of Cauca, the escalation of the armed conflict and direct violence is evident, not only due to the presence and territorial control of the groups present, but also due to the entry into these areas. of other illegal armed structures that they did not have until 2023,” said the defense institution.

Likewise, he pointed out that there is an interference of permanent action in these municipalities, and that “it goes beyond sporadic transits or pamphlet communications.”
