Food production, center of attention at the Party Plenary in Pinar del Río

The Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Party focused its analyzes on the production, contracting and marketing of food.

Onay Martínez, from the Tierra Brava agroecological farm, insisted that we must reach out to the farmers and ask them what they need, how they can help, what else they could contribute, so that they appreciate that there is support from the management structures, the Party and the Government.

He said that we must gain in planning, because in a war economy as it has been called, it is urgent to be more agile in the contracting and price agreement processes.

Rogelio Ortúzar, producer of the CCS 26 de Julio of Consolación del Sur, argued that we must look at productions such as cassava, which does not require so many resources, and popular rice, foods that can contribute to the population’s table from another perspective.

He said that each producer has to be able to increase their production campaign after campaign, little by little, until they satisfy and fulfill what is contracted.

Related to this, the farmer Juan José Cordero insisted that first there must be enough products in the countryside so that there is also in the city and that is also achieved with correct planning, otherwise each producer will plant what he wants, and The producer must be guided to those foods that are most needed.

Eumelin González Sánchez, governor of Pinar del Río, pointed out that the problems with contracting and price agreements cannot reach the next plenary session as a situation that slows down the production and marketing of food; At the same time, he pointed out that the province has the conditions to plant more.

He said that farmers must use the biological means available, without denying the efficiency of chemical products, but thinking that these can also contribute to the improvement of crops.
