Rural Development Agency invests $9,825 million in poultry projects for victims of the conflict in Córdoba

As part of the efforts to alleviate poverty, reverse the effects of the armed conflict and illegal economies in the department of Córdoba, the Rural Development Agency (ADR)attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, has invested $9,825 million in two poultry projects in Tierralta and Montería. These national strategic initiatives respond to the Comprehensive Rural Reform policy established in the Final Peace Agreement of 2016.

With this investment, 180 peasant families, mostly women and victims of the armed conflict, will be able to transform a territory affected by war and illegal activities. These projects not only seek to recover the productive vocation of the territory and integrate popular organizations into the market, but also to replace illicit economies with legal activities.

He first project will take place in Tierraltawhere the ADR and the Juan de León Association of Displaced Persons (ASODELEON) will invest $7,262 million for the assembly and operation of a poultry farm. This project, carried out by 161 victims of the armed conflict, will allow egg production to become more technical and strengthen the organization’s associative processes. The farm will include 161 sheds to house 24,150 birds certified by the ICAas well as equipment, tools, concentrated foods, medications and technical support.

Henry Espitialegal representative of ASODELEON, commented on the relationship between productive projects and peace: “If it is produced in the countryside, there is employment and motivation, which reduces hunger and, consequently, conflicts. Hunger is the main cause of war, as people risk anything to feed their children. Therefore, with opportunities to develop projects like this, peace and love are promoted in the territory.”

He second projectvalued at $2,563 millionwill be implemented in the Costa Azul property, in Montería. This land, previously owned by former paramilitary Salvatore Mancuso, will now be used for a biosecure poultry farm, managed by 19 women victims of the conflictthanks to the assignment of rights by the National Land Agency to the Costa Azul Women’s Association (ASODEMURCA).

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica Flórez, highlighted the resilience of these women: “This project is an example to follow in the implementation of agrarian reform, which seeks to distribute the most productive and fertile lands. “You are an example of how agrarian reform manages to rebuild the lives, in this case of these 19 women.”

Ana Oquendo, treasurer of ASODEMURCA, highlighted the positive impact of the project: “The meaning we give to this project is that it will improve the quality of life, not only for us but for our families, for the people who depend in one way or another on all these women. . We are the first in this territory to be included in a project with a differential approach, and that makes us feel very proud.”

Luis Alberto Higuera Malaver, president of the ADRhighlighted the purpose of the Seeds of Peace Tour: “With these two projects we are contributing to the transformation of the illicit economies that have done so much damage to the country. Today, this Government is changing the conception of the use of territory and territoriality, in the head and body of a woman. For this Government it is a pride to deliver productive projects to resilient, resistant and fighting women.”

These projects in Córdoba are added to nine others that the ADR will carry out in six departments of the country, within the framework of the Semillas de Paz Tour, with a total investment of $57,000 million in machinery, boats, equipment, livestock and supplies for various farming and fishing communities.
