Atlantic 119th Birthday: Road and tourism infrastructure

With a strong notion of sustainability, the Atlantic is advancing in the consolidation of a new route for its development. Within the framework of this process, the strengthening of road and tourism infrastructure has been viewed as a ‘vehicle’ that will ensure the socioeconomic solidity of the population in the long term.

And the department has a strategic geographical position that has been complemented by a robust road infrastructure that allows connection at a regional, national and international level. In this way, in recent years, the development and well-being of the population has been energized.

The port and maritime areas located in the final stretch of the Magdalena River, the Ernesto Cortissoz airport in Soledad and the Transport Terminal are some of the competitive advantages that have allowed the business, commercial, agricultural, tourist and ecological potential of the department to be connected.

Added to this are roads such as the Western Troncal, which connects with Antioquia, the Coffee Axis, Valle del Cauca and Cauca; the Eastern Trunk, which connects with Santanderes and the Cundiboyacense plain, and the Transversal del Caribe, which interconnects with the departments of the region and Venezuela.

To enhance these advantages, the departmental administration has considered advancing an “ambitious” plan that includes 14 road improvement projects, in which an investment of $734 billion will be made for the intervention of 134 kilometers.

“These roads allow important mobility in the region, especially in rural and industrial areas. All these corridors contribute to the connection of products to consumption and export centers. This improved road network will allow the Atlantic to be consolidated for the world, promoting agricultural and industrial development,” said Azael Charris, Secretary of Infrastructure of the department.

Added to this is the maintenance of 334 kilometers, in which vegetation cleaning, patching, sealing of fissures and cleaning of drainage works will be carried out. The resources for these interventions are guaranteed in the development plan, which was approved by the Atlantic Assembly.

Other bets correspond to the development of projects such as the Circunvalar del Norte, the Circunvalar del Sur and the Puente de la Hermandad, which promote the connectivity of the department, urban growth and the promotion of tourism and culture.
