FMC delivers usufruct lands, with the presence of the General Secretary of the FMC, Teresa Amarelles Bouè

Aime Sosa Pompa – Mujeres Magazine.- As part of the agreements derived from the XI Congress, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in Matanzas continues to accompany the new producers who receive usufruct lands.

The provincial secretary Odalys García Pérez commented to the magazine Mujeres that, in this effort and together with the departments of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) and the delegation in that territory, a leading role is being given to all those who are requesting hectares, especially based on the situation that the country is experiencing with food production.

“Today in the province there are 84 women who are in the process, which is being carried out in the 13 municipalities. In the month of April we gave land to 20 colleagues for different products, in the municipalities of Arabo, Colón, Perico and Jovellanos. The events are being held, precisely, on the farms of female producers, so that those who are starting out can see how they are working the land. The fundamental productions are bananas, other vegetables and rice; although there are also women who are requesting land for livestock farming,” García Pérez noted.

The leader highlights that this action is part of the return of the XI Congress, which left 12 work objectives with 140 very specific actions, tailored to each of the territories: “There are already more than thousands of women who today have sought land and They have been given it, that is, it is a task that, although it is within the objective of the Congress, the organization has already been working on it together with the Agriculture delegation. In addition, at a certain time, young women who graduated from the women’s voluntary military service were being prioritized. Here in the province, the need that women have to contribute to the country’s economy has never been neglected.”

While the implementation of Decree Law 358, which was approved by the Council of State in 2018, continues throughout the archipelago; The representatives of the FMC have been in talks with directors of the agricultural directorates, the Land Property Registry Office and the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in the 15 provinces of the country. Precisely, the National Program for the Advancement of Women (PAM), area 1 that refers to economic empowerment, has as one of the measures: promoting the participation of rural women, especially young people, in diverse sources of employment, given the need to increase its presence in this sector; and evaluate the delivery of usufruct lands to them.

In July 2023, the province of Matanzas had idle state assets close to 16 thousand hectares and was preparing to deliver more than 36 thousand hectares in usufruct. In the first quarter of 2024, it was estimated that there were about 17 thousand landholders. Since then, the numbers in the hands of women producers have increased. Now it remains to continue stimulating them so that their strategies are realized and the contributions that contribute to a necessary food sovereignty from Cuban soil are greater and, in particular, that they add contributions to the agricultural, livestock and socioeconomic development of the Matanzas territory.
