In a message addressed to the group of that medium, founded by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), Commander Ernesto Guevara (1928-1967) and its first director, the Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti (1929- 1964), the economist also highlighted the merit of offering truthful information to the people of the continent.

Regarding the news agency’s more than six decades of work, amid growing obstacles, the academic and prominent social activist pointed out that it is an arduous effort, an honest trajectory, to demystify the misinformation generated by hegemonic centers.

Gordón, who promoted the Government program called “Plan for a Dignified Life” in the isthmus, with emphasis on the fight against the neoliberal model, indicated that Prensa Latina is necessary for the continuity of alternative communication in defense of the people and for break the information siege that popular movements face.

Various messages in Panama greeting Prensa Latina, such as that of the National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights, recall foundational axes, summarized in a phrase by Masetti: “We are objective, but not impartial. We consider it cowardly to be impartial between good and evil.”

Almost 65 years after its founding, Prensa Latina has correspondents in nearly 40 countries and extensive information production in different formats and languages.

Despite the adversities, it maintains the daily preparation and transmission of nearly 400 dispatches, produces around twenty radio spots, works for television and social networks, as well as printed publications.

In addition, it encourages cooperation with media outlets around the world, especially from the global south.
