Awarded winners of the Global Big Day 2024 contest in Casanare » FREE PRESS CASANARE

The Directorate of Culture and Tourism of Casanare, in collaboration with Corporinoquia and with the support of Geopark, carried out the awarding of the departmental contest within the framework of Global Big Day 2024. The event took place at Granja Uary, bringing together 466 participants of 18 municipalities that competed in four categories, showing unprecedented enthusiasm and commitment.

The Governor of Casanare, César Ortiz Zorro, highlighted his support and commitment to promoting bird watching and biodiversity in the region, which has allowed Casanare to position itself in the top 10 nationally. This year, Casanare ranked number 9 with an impressive record of 208 species in 550 listings in a single day.

These were the categories and winners:

New species category for Casanare

1st Place: Las Pyrrhuras Team, represented by Alina Montoya from the municipality of Chámeza, reporting 1 new species.

General species report category

1st Place: Los Chorolos Chamezanos Team, represented by Fredy Hernán Valero from the municipality of Chámeza, reporting 149 species.

2nd Place: Los Guardianes de las Aves Team, represented by Adriana Paola Cárdenas Vargas from the municipality of Maní, reporting 133 species.

3rd Place: Momotos Birding Team, represented by César Armando López Bustamante from the municipality of Aguazul, reporting 144 species.

4th Place: Los Nidales Team, represented by Leidy Margarita Niño Acevedo from the municipality of Maní, reporting 131 species.

5th Place: Safari Llanero Team, represented by José Francisco Burgos Lucas from the municipality of Tauramena, reporting 139 species.

6th Place: Siberian Pajarito Team, represented by Erika Ximena Silva Caro from the municipality of Pajarito, reporting 39 species.

Category Bird-Friendly Schools – CAA

1st Place: Las Tangaras Bird Watchers Group Team IE Arturo Salazar Mejía, represented by Kevin Cuevas from the municipality of Támara, reporting 73 species.

2nd Place: Team Pilos de Sexto, represented by Héctor Orlando Valero from the municipality of Chámeza, reporting 65 species.

3rd Place: Team Zebrilusalgarrbo, represented by Pablo César Calderón Aguirre from the municipality of Orocué, reporting 47 species.

4th Place: Momotos Junior Team, represented by María Alexandra Riobo Díaz from the municipality of Aguazul, reporting 50 species.

5th Place: Euphonias Team, represented by Helenita Castro from the municipality of Sabanalarga, reporting 24 species.

6th Place: Poltur Social Center Guardians Team, represented by Edwin Núñez Ducón from the municipality of Yopal, reporting 37 species.

The Directorate of Culture and Tourism of Casanare indicated that by 2025, the 19 municipalities of the department are expected to join, strengthening the connection with nature and promoting sustainable tourism in the region.
