In March, the average salary of a construction worker in the province of La Rioja reached $489,194, being 65.3% below inflation. This was revealed by the report that is disseminated monthly by the Institute of Statistics and Registration of the Construction Industry (IERIC), and which was published on the portal Rioja Economy.

According to the IERIC report, salaries in construction reached an average amount of $489,194, which represents an increase in salaries of 212% when compared to the average amount of the same month last year. However, despite the improvement, the impact of the inflationary process in the year analyzed resulted in salaries in the sector losing 65.3% of their purchasing power.

Regarding the monthly comparison, In March, salaries in the construction sector reported an increase of 24.5% compared to the previous month: In February, the average salary was $386,581; while, in March, it was $489,194. Therefore, there was an improvement of $102,613 between one month and the next. It is also necessary to take into account that, in March, inflation in the region that makes up La Rioja was 8.8%.

On the other hand, nationwide average salaries in construction reached $576,854 in March. This means that, in said month, Salaries in construction in the province of La Rioja were $87,660 below the national average.

It should be noted that the data from the IERIC report covers only registered workers, and that the average salary mentioned is in relation to the hourly workload established in the collective labor agreement that governs the sector, which indicates that the workload cannot be exceed 9 hours of work per day.

The salary issue in January and February

During Februarythe average salary in the construction sector in La Rioja reached $386,581 and that figure showed an increase of 176.7% compared to the same month in 2023. However, in the same period, inflation reached 272.3 %, so he determined that salaries would lose 95.6% of their purchasing power in the period analyzed.

Compared to the previous month, In February, salaries in construction increased by 5.1%: In January, the average salary was $346,589, while in February it rose to the aforementioned $386,581. As can be seen, there was an improvement of almost $40,000 between one month and the next. However, in February inflation in the region that makes up La Rioja was 11.7%.
