With the purpose of citizens deepening their knowledge about the mechanism offered by citizen oversight to influence public management, the Mayor’s Office and the Person’s Office of Santiago de Cali have prepared a virtual meeting that will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm, through the link https://meet.google.com/qwq-tmbm-hvs
With this event, the convening organizations intend for people to feel involved in the different discussion scenarios where plans, programs and projects are developed that impact their daily lives, generating purposeful actions towards the State.
Likewise, tools will be provided for citizens to monitor the planning and execution of public resources, that is, to exercise their right to carry out social control of public management.
Citizen oversight, regulated by Law 850 of 2003, is a participation mechanism established by the Political Constitution for citizens to organize and monitor what the government does; Although this right can be exercised without the need to establish an oversight body, it guarantees the quality of the exercise, and in this way, increases its impact on the Government’s decisions.
Finally, it should be noted that this call is made in compliance with article 103 of the Colombian Political Constitution (1991), which states that “the State will contribute to the organization, promotion and training of professional, civic, union, community, charitable or of common non-governmental utility without detriment to their autonomy, with the aim of constituting democratic mechanisms of representation, in the different instances of participation, consultation, control and surveillance of public management that are established.
