Las Tunas.- Desertification and drought are among the main problems faced by the agricultural sector in the province of Las Tunas, which significantly affects food production, since more than 80 percent of the soils are evaluated between regular and bad

The long-accumulated drought and poor management of this important natural resource have caused damage to a good part of the territory, to the point of being classified as unproductive, infertile or useful only for a certain activity.

Fortunately, every year in the Las Tunas territory a program linked to land degradation is developed to respond to different situations that compromise the stability of the components of a given area and prevent better results in livestock and various crops.

In the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, together with companies in the sector, soil improvement and restoration projects are carried out, which includes the incorporation of new farming technologies, the use of trees to increase productive capacity and employment. of organic matter and other biological nutrients.

Since this province has a very low average rainfall, barely 1,038 millimeters, water limitations occur for some uses. Therefore, this leads to a change in mentality to optimize the use of this resource, minimize steam losses and guarantee food security, which is one of the main aspirations of the Cuban people and government.

Although there is minimal progress in recovery, Las Tunas has a difficult outlook for its soils. But there is hope for progress from the use of the Ecomic biofertilizer and the reforestation of vulnerable areas, among other actions, to guarantee sustainable and sustainable agriculture.
