This Tuesday the verdict will be announced in the trial against the former governor of Tucumán Joseph Alperovich, who faces serious accusations of sexual abuse. The hearing will begin at 1 p.m., in the court building located at 1500 Paraguay Street. The magistrate Juan María Ramos Padillaof the Oral Court No. 29 of CABA, will be in charge of determining whether the politician is guilty or innocent.

This decision comes after an intense trial that lasted four months and for which seventy witnesses passedincluding family members of the victim, experts and colleagues from the work environment of both the complainant and the accused.

The trial, which began on February 5, was marked by several key moments. At the beginning of the process, and following the advice of his lawyer Augusto Garrido, Alperovich decided not to testify. However, he took advantage of the last day of the testimonial stage to present his defense, where he denied the accusations, assured that he “is not depraved” and that It is “an armed cause”. This statement came after fourteen hearings that gave way to the allegations stage.

The complaint, represented by Pablo Rovatti and Carolina Cymerman of the Legal Assistance and Sponsorship Program for Victims of Serious Crimes of the Public Ministry of Defense, requested a sentence of 22 years in prison for the former senator, under the classification of sexual abuse with carnal access repeated on six occasions, in real competition with seriously outrageous sexual abuse in three events that they considered should be taken as one.

For its part, Prosecutor Sandro Abraldes He demanded a sentence of 16 and a half years for sexual abuse aggravated by carnal access on six occasions, and for having committed at least three acts of sexual abuse, two of them attempted. All in real contest, that is, the penalty must be considered separately. He took as aggravating factors the submission, the asymmetry of power and the authority he had as a public official, in addition to the physical and psychological deterioration suffered by the complainant.

By contrast, The defense attorney requested absolution of his client, insisting on Alperovich’s innocence. Garrido pointed out that “the reported events did not exist” and assured that the young woman’s testimony is a “learned and studied story” to harm it.

On the other hand, Ramos Padilla must resolve the request for the complaint to dictate the preventive prison of the accused, if convicted. As lawyer Cymerman explained to TN, this is a preventive measure until the sentence is confirmed if it comes out. The lawyer considers that the seriousness of the facts of which she is accused, added to the procedural risk, constitute harm to the complainant.

In turn, the judge has to decide whether to approve the request to charge three defense witnesses for the crime of false testimony.
