Nariño government secretary reports on increase in armed actions

The departmental secretary of government, Benildo Estupiñán, delivered a report on the public order situation in the department, where armed organizations have intensified their actions in recent days, violating peace actions that have been proposed for the territories.

The information provided by the Government Secretariat confirms that harassment has been recorded at Police stations in La Cordillera, as well as some clashes between public forces and armed groups that have left the civilian population affected and families displaced.

Another area where public order disturbances are reported is the Municipality of Barbacoas, where two professional soldiers were injured by the activation of an antipersonnel mine. Likewise, illegal checkpoints have been reported on some roads in the northern municipalities of the department where the authorities are investigating the identity of those responsible for these illegal acts.

These actions, apparently due to the increase in the presence of armed groups in the mountain range and the north of the department, may be the result of the mobility of organizations from other departments that seek to take control of the area due to its strategic importance.
