The Attorney General’s Office has achieved the prosecution of Yerlín Andrey Giraldo Marín, a member of the National Protection Unit (UNP), who was captured in flagrante delicto while transporting a 17-year-old teenager.

The vehicle in which they were traveling, belonging to a UNP protection scheme between Popayán (Cauca) and Tuluá (Valle del Cauca), was stopped by the National Police at the Betania toll.

During the inspection of the vehicle, the teenager declared that she had been recruited against her will, presumably to be delivered to an illegal armed group that operates in the southwest of the country. Giraldo Marín was arrested at the scene, while another teenager who accompanied him was also apprehended.

A prosecutor from the Valle del Cauca Section has accused Giraldo Marín of the crime of illicit recruitment and requested his imprisonment in a prison, a measure that was granted by the guarantee control judge.

On the other hand, the adolescent involved was presented before a judge of the Criminal Responsibility System for Adolescents, facing similar charges and secured with preventive confinement in a specialized center.
