The director of Epidemiology, Dr. Eduardo Bazán, spoke with La Mañana de Provincia about the increase in cases of seasonal flu in La Rioja. He looks at the note.
At first, the doctor indicated that during the winter season there is always an increase in consultations for respiratory diseases, and clarified “the difference with respect to other years is that we have noticed the presence of the flu virus, in months prior to those of us who had been watching it. That translates today into a 30% increase in reported flu cases compared to the same time last year.”
“Last year at this time we had already accumulated 3,500 cases, and at this moment we have almost 4,000, so we have a significant increase in consultations”
He also warned about the relaxation regarding respiratory vaccines, “this year one more was added, which is the vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus. “It is difficult for us to make people aware of the importance of getting these vaccines, especially pregnant women who are the ones who will protect their babies against bronchiolitis.”
