In a restaurant in the city of Bogotá, part of the team that was crowned champion of the Copa América in 2001 met, giving the Colombian National Team its only official title in history. There, the members of that team took the opportunity to dedicate a song to the team that seeks to achieve the second title in this competition.

At the meeting they were Iván López, Fredy “Totono” Grisales, Eudalio Arriaga, Roberto Carlos Cortés, Óscar Díaz, Gerardo Bedoya, Óscar Córdoba, Fabián Vargas and Víctor Hugo Aristizábal. Francisco Maturana, Head coach of that 2001 winning team was also on site.

It is not known what the initial reason for the meeting was, however, according to some versions of those attending the place, they were there for almost three hours, showing camaraderie and joy.

The key moment that was recorded on social networks is when the members of the meeting sang a song in support of the current team that will represent the country in the Copa América 2024 that will begin this Thursday, June 20, in the United States.

The song is a version of the song “Life is a party” by Celia Cruz, which was recorded by the Cuban artist in 1998. A part of the lyrics performed by the Colombian champions reads like this:

Anyone who thinks that Colombia is going to win

You have to know that it is like that

That Colombia was champion

With Maturana!

Aaaaa! We have to win

That Colombia is a carnival

And again we lift it.

Colombia begins its participation in the Copa América 2024 on Monday, June 24 against Paraguay, Costa Rica and Brazil are the other two teams that share group D with the tricolor, which arrives at the tournament undefeated in 23 games.

In the latest version of the contest, the coffee team placed third, the same position it achieved in 2016, where the competition was held with a format similar to this year in the United States.
