Logroño, June 20.- The Dionisio project for a sustainable countryside, which is being developed in La Rioja, has managed in its first two years to promote actions for sustainability, such as the installation of hotels for pollinators next to vineyards that have reached a rate of 50% occupancy.
These are the first results released this Thursday by the Bayer Crop Science (Bayer) division that promotes this program in coordination with the agricultural organization Arag-Asaja, the environmental NGO Grefa, the company Biodiversity Node and the collaboration of Bodegas y Viñedos Real Rubio .
The biodiversity experts from Biodiversity Node have explained that the Action Plan developed on the “El Tordillo” farm, of Viñedos Real Rubio, has achieved “excellent” results in many of the measures implemented.
Thus, 50% occupancy of hotels for pollinators has been reached; colonization of the pond (frogs, dragonflies, Vanesa butterfly); and 60% occupancy of nest boxes (kestrels, sparrows), among others.
All of this contributes to increasing the number of natural enemies of pests and, therefore, to enhancing their biological control, as stated.
The implementation of the project has been carried out in several phases: first, a study of the area and an analysis to find out what type of species could coexist with the crops and also help mitigate pests.
Afterwards, habitat diversification measures were established through the installation of amphibian ponds; nest boxes for birds, raptors and bats; insect hotels, hedges for pollination and perches for raptors.
Now, after the positive impact achieved in these two years, the project will continue to be developed in “El Tordillo” and measuring its evolution over time.
