The Ministry of Health of the Department, through a 6-point statement, warns the community in general that the H1N1 case detected in Pivijay does not constitute an emergency situation for the rest of the municipalities.

“Given the confirmation of a case of H1N1 influenza registered in the municipality of Pivijay, the Government of Magdalena, through the Ministry of Health, immediately carried out an exhaustive analysis, giving priority to a field epidemiological investigation with the objective of dismantling in the community any collective paranoia in the face of a medical situation that turns out to be more ordinary than it seems,” expresses the statement of Diana Celedón Sánchez, in her capacity as Secretary of Health of the Department.

The communication states that it is necessary to mention that the person’s diagnosis was confirmed in Barranquilla, a city in which he remains receiving medical attention, without any symptoms different from the clinical picture that is recorded for these cases.

In response to the unnecessary climax of anguish caused by the sensational publications of some media, the Government of Magdalena reports that:

1.- Infection with the variant can cause mild symptoms, the H1N1 virus has circulated in the region for the last 15 years and the situation has not and does not represent an emergency.

2.- Given the confirmation of the recent H1N1 infection, the Ministry of Health advanced the protocols for acute respiratory infection in patients who register similar symptoms.

3.- The actions are aimed at investigating and confirming the times, places and people involved in the contagion, as well as maintaining general recommendations for the community of the municipality of Pivijay.

4.- It is important to maintain the complete vaccination schedule against influenza according to age.

5.- The Departmental Health Secretariat invites people not to cause collective panic and urges frequent hand washing after using tissues, coughing or sneezing. As well as keeping the homes ventilated, illuminated, clean and smoke-free.

6.- Likewise, it is recommended to avoid contact and shake hands or kiss people with acute respiratory infection to prevent contagion.

The department’s public hospital network has the capabilities to manage cases of this respiratory virus.
