Cundinamarca: Police arrest for illegal possession of firearms in Choachí

In a joint operation between the Colombian National Police and the Attorney General’s Office, José Arley Jara Oñate, alias “Chepe”, was arrested for the crime of Manufacturing, Trafficking or Carrying Firearms. The arrest was possible thanks to a search and seizure warrant carried out in the Guaza neighborhood of the municipality of Choachí, which culminated in the suspect’s capture in flagrante delicto.

The police action, which was developed after a thorough investigation carried out by uniformed officers from the Cundinamarca Police Department, was fundamentally supported by information provided by the local community.

The operation allowed the seizure of an arsenal consisting of four firearms, as well as ammunition, three cell phones, two communications radios, cash and four bicycles allegedly stolen by Jara Oñate.

According to testimonies collected in the area, alias “Chepe” had used firearms to intimidate multiple people, committing acts of theft under threat.

This behavior had generated a climate of insecurity in the Guaza village, which mobilized both the authorities and the community to act quickly.

The seized material was made available to the competent judicial authority for analysis and subsequent judicialization, while a judge ordered an intramural preventive measure against the captured person.

This measure seeks to guarantee that Jara Oñate does not continue to represent a threat to the community and that progress is made in the corresponding judicial process.

Authorities have stressed the importance of citizen collaboration in the fight against crime and have urged the community to continue reporting any criminal activity.

In particular, emphasis has been placed on gender violence, inviting women to use guidance line 155 to report any act of gender-based violence.

Seized items:

  • Four firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Three cell phones
