Benetton, the Italian club that reached the playoffs of the United Rugby Championship, announced the hiring of Lautaro Bazán Vélez from Córdoba, scrum half of Los Pumas, for the 2024/25 season, with the option to renew for one more year.

“It is with satisfaction that we announce the incorporation of Bazán Vélez: a talented and experienced scrum half who will reinforce the position after the departures of Duvenage and Hidalgo-Clyne. We believe that Lautaro has the appropriate qualities for the level at which we compete; “We are confident that his arrival will bring added value to the team and that it will help us continue the path of growth that the group, even in the season that has just ended, has proven to pursue with satisfactory results,” stated the General Director, Antonio. Pavanello.

The player trained at Córdoba Athletic, World Cup winner in France 2023 and called up by Felipe Contepomi for the July window, joins the Treviso team after two seasons with Rovigo, a team with which he was champion of the 2022/23 Serie A Elite.

“When I found out that Benetton Rugby was interested in me, I felt immense joy and at the same time a great desire to start this new adventure soon,” said the back 28 years old, medalist with Los Pumas 7s in Tokyo 2020.

“The club, its history and what it represents for the city pushed me to accept; Furthermore, the extraordinary players on the squad will allow me to grow as a player and as a person. “I can’t wait to start working to earn a place on the court and be useful to the team,” he added.

The Cordoban will be a teammate of Ignacio Mendy, Thomas Gallo, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Tomás Albornoz, Bautista Bernasconi, Juan Ignacio Brex and Iván Nemer.
