The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, visited this Saturday the Unión de Reyes municipality, in the southwest of the western province of Matanzas, as part of the government agenda to exchange and verification in the territories.

According to information from Presidency Cuba in X, the Cuban president began the tour through the neighborhood known as Sabanilla, belonging to the Juan Gualberto Gómez town.

There he walked along Independencia Street and learned about the transformations that include the renovation of homes, the incorporation of young people into study and work, and attention to vulnerable families.

According to the local newspaper Girón, in the exchange with the residents he urged everyone to work hard.

“I know it is difficult when the situation is extremely complex, but these people have been industrious and selfless, and what you have achieved here is an example for so many other neighborhoods in Cuba,” he stated.

He also toured the Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja polyclinic, where he spoke with workers and the director of the institution, Dr. Yenia Ruiz, and was interested in the renovation of the center, which today provides services to more than 18,500 inhabitants of the territories. of Bemejas, Cabezas, Puerto Rico and Plan Turquino.

This institution offers emergency consultation, as well as echocardiogram, ultrasound, clinical laboratory, stomatology, rehabilitation room, optometry, among others.

The X-ray service, with digital technology, is of particular relevance to the center, from which 1,262 patients have benefited to date, including 405 medical emergencies.

Díaz-Canel also went to the Félix Ricardo López Medina primary school and the local House of Culture, institutions that were subject to structural and aesthetic improvements as part of an action plan to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the birth of Juan Gualberto Gómez , distinguished Cuban patriot.

It evaluated the use of the budget of more than two million pesos allocated to the works, which include a patching process still pending completion, the information indicated.

This is the fifth government visit that the Cuban head of state makes to the Yumur territory in 2024. Before, it was the municipalities of Colón, Cárdenas, Jovellanos and Jagüey Grande.
