The high court met on Wednesday with the attorney general, Luz Adriana Camargo, to ask her to investigate possible government tricks against the magistrates, according to Semana and El Colombiano.

In that meeting, according to Semana, the president of the Court, José Fernando Reyes, delivered a letter to Camargo in which Judge Jorge Enrique Ibáñez assures that he is being a victim of harassment by State intelligence agencies. “…I do not rule out that the same action may be taking place in relation to other magistrates of the Constitutional Court,” says the letter, written by Ibáñez, to which Semana had access.

Ibáñez is a conservative magistrate who was appointed in 2020 thanks to the support of the Democratic Center and the Conservative Party. He was one of the two speakers of the ruling that overturned the non-deductibility of royalties, a decision that struck at the heart of the 2022 tax reform.

The noises about possible ordered shots are growing. Even the director of the National Intelligence Directorate, Carlos Ramón González, one of the president’s strong men, was summoned to political control for the complaints and denied the tricks in Congress.
