Palmares SA, non-hotel entity of the cuban tourismhas decided to rescue the DiTú coffee shop networkfamous in the early and mid-2000s, which are mostly out of use today.

The announcement, made last Thursday, was shown as an effort “to strengthen tourism in Cuba,” the official reported. Latin Press.

Jorge Luis Acosta, general director of Palmares, announced that the recovery of the DiTú coffee shop network will begin with establishments located near hospitals in several municipalities of Havana.

The manager pointed out that the DiTú cafeteria in front of the Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Central Military Hospital is already operational, equipped with a soft drink dispenser, fryer, mixer, iron and refrigerators, among other essential equipment for the preparation of food and drinks.

In addition, he said that a second stage will They will rescue the Ditú cafeterias located in “vulnerable and difficult-to-access neighborhoods”.

In the latter, it is planned to offer “a less expensive and more feasible service to the population of those areas,” through its own productions and production chains, Acosta indicated.

The company has 17 branches, three of them in Havana and the rest distributed in the country’s provinces. It manages around 678 facilities with 1,333 options that include diverse products and services, mainly in tourist centers.

The return of these cafes aims to improve the poor tourist offer in Cuba, which has been the subject of criticism on numerous occasions.

Currently, the so-called Ditú stand out in the reality of Cubans due to their limited supply, which is frequently sold at very high prices.

A video shared by the news portal Cuba DNA shows the precariousness in which one of these cafeterias is located.

“Salt crackers at 2,900 pesos a package, Red Bull at 220, Rum Mulata Reserva 2,700… They no longer sell chicken, croquetica, or hamburger, this will soon become Mipyme“, denounced a man in the video.

That same shortage was alerted by Anibal Ferrand on Facebook.

“Sad really. Ditú my countryman. Baracoa Oriente CUBA”, is the message that accompanies a photo showing the shortage of supplies in this cafeteria.

Recently, a group of Cubans in Houston, Texas, decided to open a “DiTú”, reproducing the popular business selling croquettes and fried chicken that existed in Cuba at the end of the 90s.

In the small restaurant, food is sold in an outdoor space and a more intimate space inside the premises. Beers and other drinks are also sold, in addition, the place transforms into a nightclub almost at dawn, as mentioned in a video that circulates on the social network TikTok.
