May has once again confirmed its status as the tourist month par excellence in Córdoba. The city almost had 100,000 tourists staying in hotels, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In total, 98,501 tourists chose to stay in hotels in the capital of Córdoba, an increase of 9.75% compared to the same month last year, when the figure did not reach 90,000 visitors.

Prevalence of international tourism

The increase in the number of tourists is largely due to the influx of foreign visitors. Of the almost 100,000 registered tourists, 54,661 came from abroad, surpassing the 43,840 national tourists. This pattern has been consistent throughout the year, signaling a solid recovery in international tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Increase in overnight stays and average stay

In May, overnight stays also experienced significant growth. 178,022 hotel nights were recorded, 12% more than the 158,944 registered in May of the previous year. This increase suggests an increase in the average stay of tourists, which became 1.81 nights, compared to 1.77 nights for the same period in 2023.

High hotel occupancy

Hotel occupancy in May reached very positive levels, standing at 75%, compared to 67% last year. Weekends were especially busy, with occupancy close to 80%. Although the number of operational hotels was slightly lower (92 in May this year compared to 94 last year), open establishments offered more beds (7,584 compared to 7,570 in 2023).

Encouraging annual outlook

The balance of the year until May reflects a positive trend for tourism in Córdoba. In the first five months of the year, 423,084 people stayed in hotels in the city, an increase of 11% compared to the 381,883 in the same period in 2023. This data, which only includes hotel accommodation, suggests an even more favorable outlook when Other forms of accommodation are considered.

Córdoba, on the path of tourist recovery

Córdoba is strongly recovering its tourist attraction, driven by an increase in the arrival of foreign tourists and an increase in the length of stays. These factors indicate a promising year for the city’s tourism sector, consolidating May as a key month for the local economy.
