ProBarranquilla seeks to impact Atlantic exports

With the aim of boosting Atlantic exports, ProBarranquilla led a mission to attract investments in Bogotá, highlighting the competitive advantages of the region for the installation and expansion of industrial and logistics operations focused on international markets.

During the tour, ProBarranquilla led a delegation made up of the Barranquilla Free Zone, Zofia Free Zone, La Cayena Free Zone, the Port of Barranquilla and the Coremar logistics cluster. During the mission, 14 meetings were held with potential investors from the heavy and light manufacturing industries, especially in the food and beverage, construction materials, packaging, automation and renewable energy sectors.

Of the companies visited, 86% are manufacturing and 72% have an export focus, highlighting the relevance of attracting businesses with the potential for international expansion contributing to the positioning of the region as a strategic logistics hub, improving the global competitiveness of the Atlantic.

After the pandemic, the behavior of national and foreign capital investment changed significantly. ProBarranquilla has focused part of its strategy to promote and attract investments in foreign companies located in the interior of the country that export. By moving their operations to Barranquilla, a port city, these companies gain competitive advantages in international logistics. As a result, the proportion of investment projects has gone from a historical 50/50 balance between domestic and foreign capital to a greater concentration of foreign capital, reaching an average of 78% over the past four years.

María Alejandra Henríquez, investment manager of ProBarranquilla.

“Foreign companies maintain their confidence in the Atlantic. We must capitalize on this attribute and highlight the benefits of the territory in location, infrastructure, human capital, and the favorable ecosystem for investment in Barranquilla and the Atlántico, where all institutions, the local government, unions, among others, work together so that the investment projects are developed successfully in the territory. Which positions us as a pole of industrial development and an attractive destination for investment in the region.” he claimed María Alejandra Henríquez, investment manager of ProBarranquilla.
