The vice-rector of the UBA, Emiliano Yacobitticelebrated this Tuesday the news that the firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) – which is dedicated to the analysis of universities in different parts of the world – chose Buenos Aires as the best city in Latin America to study a university degree.

“It is a pride”, said the radical leader about the recognition. He did it through a video that he shared on his social networks, in which he highlighted the ranking released in the last few hours and took advantage of both to underline the academic offer of the University of Buenos Aires to make a call to value the work of teachers and researchers who continue to praise public education.

“This is not only a recognition of our beloved City of Buenos Aires for the vitality it provides, but it is also a recognition to this great institution that is the UBA. This explains why more and more people want to come to study in our beloved city. Not only for the vitality it provides, not only for other cities in the country, but also for other major capitals in the world,” Yacobitti said in his message.

In this sense he continued: “And that is because we have one of the best universities in the world, our beloved University of Buenos Aires. So it is time for us to value what we have, to work to study it, to value the work that teachers and researchers do in this university that continues to position us among the best universities in the world.”

The report indicates that Buenos Aires is characterized by being affordable, with a low cost of living and an average rent of $290 per month, according to Numbeo. In addition, it has good job prospects, with a high score in entrepreneurial activity, indicating that university graduates enjoy a high reputation among employers. The city also stands out for its student diversity, with 15 percent of its 237,600 students coming from abroad.

In the development of the list, follows Santiago de Chilethe city has established itself as one of the most attractive destinations for students in Latin America for several reasons: it has nine of the ten best universities in the entire country, according to the QS World University ranking.

The third Latin American city positioned in the ranking is Mexico City, known for its vibrant and diverse cultural offering, home to a significant set of top-level universities. Seven institutions in the Mexican capital have been highlighted, placing the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) as the best among them, according to the QS World University Rankings 2023.
