In the middle of an intervention at the Police promotion ceremony, President Gustavo Petro asked General William Salamanca, director of said institution, to establish a “lock zone” to ensure the security of COP 16.

“Cali has 89 fewer homicides compared to the same period last year. It entered the lists of the most dangerous cities in the world and at the same time has the responsibility of the largest international event that has been held in Colombia, which is COP 16,” the Colombian president said at first.

Furthermore, Petro highlighted that the city has the goal of getting out of the most violent cities in the world and that it is on the right track.

“This reduction in the homicide rate shows that the city is emerging from violence and that it can welcome the governments of the world. I ask General Salamanca to begin building the padlocked area that allows absolute security in this city that has been affected by violence for a long time,” Petro pointed out.
