He executive director of the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), Christian Little, He ruled out resigning amid questions about his management of the mega fire last February in the Valparaíso region.

Let us remember that the gigantic incident spread to urban sectors of Viña del Mar, Quilpué, Villa Alemana and Limache, claiming the lives of 123 people, destroying some 6 thousand homes.

The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated in an investigative commission, where serious accusations were made against Christian Little, both due to aerial images that would not have been delivered to Senapred.

But also, Conaf union leaders stated that director Little, when warned by an official that the fire would reach Villa Alemana and Quilpué, his response would have been to laugh at the warning, something that was denied by the organization.

In this regard, in an interview with Santiago TV, Christian Little assured that he will continue to head Conaf, ensuring that he feels prepared for the position.

“I am a serious person and I take my job with a lot of public awareness. I am here for public awareness. I think I am prepared for this,” he said.

In that sense, the director of Conaf ruled out resigning, emphasizing that “my management is characterized by a management of public sense, of processing bills, strengthening the institution.”

“We have doubled the budget, without considering all the management that has been done with the regional governments that have supported us in terms of fire management with the brigades, the work with the mayors,” he added.

“By the way, we have a lot of support from all the mayors, so we are going to continue in the management,” he concluded.
