June 27 is a non-working day in the national and provincial public administration and in some localities. What does the date have to do with collective agreements?

At the urging of ATE, the provincial public administration celebrates State Worker’s Day on June 27. For this reason, this Thursday is a holiday in the provincial and national organizations and the union demands that all the municipalities of Río Negro adhere to Decree 956 of 2019, which repealed a previous one of the military dictatorship.

ATE chose June 27 as a commemorative date for the day in 1978 when the International Labor Organization (ILO) adopted Convention 151 and recognized public employees’ right to collective bargaining. This declaration in the province has been law since 2021, although the agreement has not yet been implemented.

“The implementation of the collective agreement is an outstanding debt of Rio Negro democracy that we are correcting,” said Rodrigo Vicente, general secretary of ATE. “We are working with the Government on its drafting and we want to have it ready by August 1.”

“We call on all the municipalities of Rio Negro to declare a holiday and municipal workers can also celebrate their day,” added Vicente.

It is also a holiday in the national public administration thanks to Law 26,876 of 2013 promoted by former deputy Víctor de Gennaro, former secretary general of ATE and founder of the CTA.
