The Duitama mayor’s office clarified that the monument will be restored and moved to another locationin which the story of César Rincón will be portrayed, who at the time was considered the best bullfighter in the world.
However, For many, the removal of the statue from the site caused discomfort especially on social networks, condemning that the story of the renowned bullfighter is being attacked.
“The true image of savagery: they demolish the statue of teacher César Rincón in Duitama”, “What they did in Duitama is the greatest arbitrariness that they could think of allowing to be done in Boyacá”, “What happened in Duitama is a sad example of how this government imposes its progressive agenda. They tear down the statue of the bullfighter César Rincón and want to dictate through laws and violence what culture is in Colombia“, are some of the comments that can be seen.
Given this fact, César Rincón was devastated and worried as stated to Semana Magazine: “Our ethical and moral values are disrupted and there is no right to what happens. There are no more words, the qualifiers fall short. It is unfortunate, it is an ideology that they want to impose on us, it is their taste”.
