Prosecutors open investigation into death threats against Ricardo Roa, president of Ecopetrol

This case was assumed by a prosecutor from the Bogotá Sectional Directorate, who collected evidentiary elements to establish responsibilities.

The Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into the death threat received by the president of Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa Barragán.

On his birthday, Roa received a ballot with the message “Rest in peace,” along with a black cross and his name written on it. He was also sent two bullets and graveyard soil. Everything was wrapped in gift paper inside a shoe box.

A note is also read simulating an epitaph: “By sharing the feelings of regret, we want to convey it with true and sincere pain (…).”

Ecopetrol spoke out in a statement rejecting these events: “The board of directors, all officials and unions of the Ecopetrol Group strongly reject the threats against the life of the company’s president, Ricardo Roa Barragán, known in recent hours. ”.

“The Company, through its security chief, informed the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police of this situation so that all measures can be taken to ensure the protection and life of Ricardo Roa and their family environment,” the document reads.

“At Ecopetrol we call for respect for the life and integrity of all Colombians without distinction, as stated in our institutional premise of Life First,” they concluded.
