Faced with this scenario, at Expreso Bío Bío we spoke with the mayor of Porvenir, José Gabriel Parada, who assured that this same situation occurred “in the past, we are talking about 40 years ago.”

“Temperatures did occur, but this polar front that accompanied us during these last two weeks was something unprecedented,” he added.

Among the effects that this scenario has caused, the community leader commented that it highlights “the beauty that is seen in the bay, which is still frozen in several parts, which is an attraction, despite the difficulties it produces, for the sector. tourist”.

Likewise, he confirmed that “classes for secondary schools and kindergartens were suspended. Also, there are institutions that are teleworking, because they also do not have water in some public services.”

“We have practically more than 200 homes with pipe freezing problems (…) Yesterday we had more than 100 people whose meters had burst,” he added.

In addition, he pointed out that “there are eight delivery points in the commune, in the city, so that people can go and collect water.”
