Twelve municipalities of Cesar on red alert due to risks of landslides

The Disaster Risk Management Office in Cesar warned about the threats of landslides in twelve municipalities of the department, which is why they have activated the monitoring of areas vulnerable to this situation, by the municipal committees that daily receive the alerts.

In this sense, the municipalities of Aguachica, Agustín Codazzi, Becerril, Chimichagua, Chiriguaná, Curumaní, González, La Gloria, Pailitas, Pelaya, Pueblo Bello, Río de Oro and Valledupar in the rural area are on red alert.

Meanwhile, El Copey, La Jagua de Ibirico, La Paz, San Alberto, San Diego and Tamalameque are on orange alert; and in yellow the municipality of San Martín.

From the Risk Management Office in Cesar, they recommend to the community that in the event that some people detect the risk to which they are exposed, they should go to shelters already established by the Local Response Plan of their community and be attentive to the instructions from the authorities.

In the case of territories on orange alert, the Municipal Risk Management Committee and the population in general must remain alert, observing any danger to evacuate to safe places if necessary. The same way. They must be attentive to the recommendations of relief agencies.

In this regard, Petra Romero, head of the Risk Management Office in Cesar, said that the La Niña Phenomenon is strongly affecting Cesar, where in addition, the rains have affected Gamarra, Pailitas, Curumaní, Manaure, Agustín. Codazzi, Chimichagua and San Diego.

Ideam has also warned about the arrival of cyclones whose blows will be felt more strongly in the Caribbean departments.

Another of the alerts that Ideam has issued is due to the sudden flooding of the rivers in Cesar, mainly in Badillo, Chemesquemena and La Vega Arriba in Valledupar. Likewise, in Socuy and Sororia in La Jagua de Ibirico.

Regarding the Magdalena River, the risk is focused on the municipalities of Gamarra, La Gloria and Tamalameque.

The La Niña phenomenon continues to be a threat to the department. The winter wave is causing serious damage and material losses.
