Santiago de Cuba.— The 19th edition of the ExpoCaribe International Fair was inaugurated this Wednesday at the Heredia Cultural Complex, becoming “once again the natural showcase for the Cuban East to expose its portfolio of opportunities to the Greater Caribbean and beyond,” as This was highlighted by Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex).

The second commercial exchange of the Greater Antilles, “from 1993 to the present, has achieved international recognition, since it promotes the comprehensive development of the region and promotes the Cuban economy and culture,” he stated in his opening words, Manuel Falcón Hernández, governor of Santiago de Cuba, before the member of the Central Committee and his first secretary in the territory, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia; the diplomatic staff of some eight nations; representatives of various chambers of commerce, their counterparts from the eastern provinces and all sectors of our economy.

In a special way, ExpoCaribe 2024 is another example of “the solidarity and economic prosperity for which Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz fought,” said Halim Majeed, ambassador of the Republic of Guyana, on behalf of the Caribbean Community.

Numerous businessmen from the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, Portugal, Gambia, Uganda and nearly 30 countries attend the event.

Sponsored by the Provincial Government, Mincex and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, the event will make it possible – according to Pérez-Oliva Fraga – to “turn difficulties into opportunities”, with the holding of business forums, signing of letters of intent, concretion of business and of presentations such as that of the Work Strategy of the Federative Republic of Brazil towards the Greater Caribbean.

On this occasion, the Fair is dedicated to the 71st anniversaries of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, the 51st of Cuba-Caricom relations and the 509th of the Hero City, and as is traditional, it honored, in the heritage cemetery of Santa Iphigenia, to leading figures of the nation and a commemorative postage stamp was cancelled.
