In an effort to revitalize the rich beer tradition of Santiago de Cuba, the family-run MSME “D’Cano” has officially launched its new line of beers and malts on the 19th. ExpoCaribe 2024 International Fair, held at the Heredia Cultural Center.

Ariel Serrano, technical director of operations and one of the founding brothers, explained to Excelencias the background and objectives of this initiative.

D’Cano is a family business run by three brothers, who are inspired by Santiago’s long and revered brewing tradition. This city, known for its great knowledge and tradition in the production of alcoholic beverages, was the origin of one of the most famous beers in Cuba. Serrano highlighted that several renowned brewers, some already deceased, contributed to the beginning of this project, contributing their vast knowledge.

The D’Cano brewery does not simply seek to sell drinks, but rather to recover and offer an experience that pays tribute to Santiago’s beer culture. Their beers, categorized as “live,” are unpasteurized, meaning the yeast in the beverage remains active, providing a fresher product with probiotic benefits. This process is a departure from commercial beers that spend months in transit and storage before reaching the consumer.

D’Cano’s business model focuses on local production and rapid delivery, ensuring that its products reach consumers within a maximum of 24 hours from manufacturing. This ensures a freshness and quality that imported beers cannot match. In addition, D’Cano beers are of the Lager type, the preferred style in Cuba, and are designed to be nutritious, rich in minerals and vitamin B, contributing positively to the intestinal flora.

A highlight of the company is the rigorous water treatment, essential for the production of high-quality beer and malt, and also for its pure sale. D’Cano uses a cascade filtration system that includes chlorination stations and a reverse osmosis plant. This process ensures that the water used meets strict parameters of hardness, conductivity and mineralization. The surplus water production, which is of high quality for human consumption, is also being considered for commercialization, after receiving positive evaluations from several health and microbiological entities.

With more than 20,000 liters of beer produced in its initial format and a website in operation (dcano14k.com), D’Cano is preparing to expand its presence in the market. The company is also active on social networks such as Facebook and Instagram, using these platforms to educate the public about the healthy consumption of its products.

The launch of D’Cano marks a rebirth of the brewing tradition in Santiago de Cuba, offering consumers not only a high-quality beverage, but also a connection to their cultural heritage and a healthy product.
