Eleven councilors fled Mosquera, Nariño, due to death threats

Eleven councilors from the municipality of Mosquera, in the Pacific of Nariño, They had to flee that town after unknown persons sent them several audios in which they were threatened. of death.

The incident was reported to the municipal and regional offices of the Pacific Ombudsman in Tumaco. by the lobbyists, who asked to keep their identities confidential.

In dialogue with Blu Radio, One of those affected assured that the threats began to arrive after the events that occurred in Bogotá, where councilors Alexy Olmedo Perlaza, 36, and Edwin Garcés Pineda, 40, were attacked with bullets. when they left La Picota prison.

The lobbyist stated that that same day, June 23, at night, Voice messages arrived via WhatsApp to different cell phones in which they were threatened with death if they did not leave. of the population.

Simultaneouslythe inhabitants of the El Naranjo area, an hour from the urban area of ​​the municipality of Mosquera, left their homes arguing that they were also threatened and asked for protection from the authorities.

“We do not know where these threats come from because we do not have problems with any illegal armed group,” said the municipal council representative.who assured that four councilors are hiding in Tumaco and the other seven went to Cali because they do not trust and are very afraid.

The councilors and social leaders who fled their homes in the rural area of ​​Mosquera, in the Pacific of Nariño, to save their lives, They asked international organizations defending human rights for protection, because they assure that, despite having reported this fact to the Protection Unit, have not received any response.

“We are not going to wait for there to be a massacre for the authorities to act,” he said. Another of the threatened councillors, who asked to remain anonymous.

For his part, the Secretary of Government of the department, Benildo Estupiñán told Blu Radio that the authorities of the Police, Navy and National Army are investigating the authenticity of the audios. and assured that the relevant measures have already been taken to avoid regrettable events in that region of the Nariño Pacific.

Estupiñán insisted that the authorities and intelligence agencies are investigating whether or not the threats against the councillors have any relation to the attack. of which the president of the corporation and another councilor, who is receiving medical attention in Bogotá, were victims.
