Javier Zanetti: “Argentina and Uruguay are today the best teams in South America”

Buenos Aires, June 27 (EFE).- Former soccer player Javier Zanetti stated this Thursday that the Argentine and Uruguayan teams are the best on the continent and candidates for the Copa América title being held in the United States.

“I put Uruguay above Brazil to fight for the title against Argentina. It is going to be a great protagonist. Today they are the two best teams in South America,” explained ‘el Pupi’ in an interview with the TyC Sports channel.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team and the Bolivian team will play this Thursday one of the matches of the second round of Group C of the Copa América, which is completed by the United States and Panama.

The Argentine team, led by Lionel Scaloni, leads the South American World Cup qualifiers and Uruguay is in second place.

Zanetti, who played in five Copa América editions and two World Cups, played 142 matches with the Albiceleste team and is third on the list of those who have participated the most, behind Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano.

The former player and current vice president of Italian club Inter Milan also spoke about two great promises of Argentine football, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder Valentín Carboni and his brother, the left-back Franco Carboni.

Both belong to the ‘nerazzurra’ entity, although they will have very different destinies. The attacker played on loan to Monza in Serie A and, as confirmed by Zanetti, will return to the Milanese team next season.

Franco Carboni, who was playing for Ternera Calcio in the Italian third division this year, may join River Plate. EFE
