The Sea Festival will be a tribute to our roots and traditions

On a capital night full of joy, musical shows and many emotions, the launch of the Fiesta del Mar 2024 “El Origen” took place in Bogotá, in its 65th edition, chaired by the mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, the singer-songwriter from Santa Marta, Carlos Vives, and the District Secretary of Culture, Darío Linero Mejía.

The guests at the meeting with the Samaria tradition met at the Cumbia House Gaira restaurant, with the presence of the Social Manager, Bleydis Pérez; the National Captain of the Sea 2023, Daniela Restrepo; Miss Santa Marta to the National Sea Captaincy competition, Laura Angulo; the ‘Ambassador of the Sea Festival, heading towards 500 years’, Ana Sofía Urbina; secretaries of the district cabinet and personalities from various social sectors who represent Samaritan roots.

Under the theme “The Origin”, the official brand of the Sea Festival 2024, which will take place from July 25 to 29, the promotion of this celebration began, which brings together Samarians, national and foreign visitors, as well as lovers of nautical sports and local culture.

The mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, during his speech, made a warm invitation to this celebration, highlighting the importance of sharing this experience with family and friends: «We want all of you, as well as your families and friends, to join us in Santa Marta to live this unique experience, feel the sea breeze, enjoy our traditions and celebrate with us this historical milestone.

He also indicated that “The Sea Festival must shine again with the splendor that characterized it in the past and filled us with pride. “It will be a tribute to our roots and traditions, a tribute to all those who have made Santa Marta a special place.”

Likewise, Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello called on all citizens to become Ambassadors of the Fiesta del Mar: “We want to put the eyes of Colombia and the world on Santa Marta. Tonight, we invite everyone to be ambassadors of the Fiesta del Mar. Help us spread the word, to tell all of Colombia and the world about this wonderful celebration. We want to see our hotels at maximum capacity, hosting many tourists who come to enjoy the party in this unique corner of the Colombian Caribbean.”

Finally, the mayor urged the community to build together a prosperous future for Santa Marta.

Carlos Vives, the ambassador of the sea

Also, during this emotionally charged meeting, Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello appointed the singer-songwriter from Santa Marta, Carlos Vives, as “Ambassador of the Sea, Towards 500 Years,” highlighting his talent, intellectual and artistic qualities, and his knowledge of the culture of Santa Marta. “Carlos Vives will be the ambassador of our city at the local, national and international level, in the programs and actions aimed at the celebration of the 500 years of Santa Marta, which begins with the Fiesta del Mar 2024,” said Mayor Pinedo Cuello.

And very excited Carlos Vives received this designation and invited everyone present to continue honoring Santa Marta and fight to maintain the Samaria identity so that it is a legacy for future generations.

During the launch event of the Fiesta del Mar, Carlos Vives gave a musical presentation, performing his best songs, those that carry the flavor of ‘La Perla de América’ and the seal of Cumbia House Gaira, which inside keeps all the tradition and the flavor of his beloved city Santa Marta.
