The Cuban regime decided to extend again the tariff exemption for food, hygiene products and medicines imported by travelers from abroad

Resolution 211/2024, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cubaextends the exemption for three more months, until September 30, 2024, and allows non-commercial importation and free of customs taxes of these essential products.

In addition, the customs value limit for non-commercial shipments made by individuals was increased from $200 to $500.

The first 30 units of this currency or its equivalent in weight are exempt from paying customs tax, while the excess will be taxed with a tariff rate of 30%.

According to official statements, the measure seeks to alleviate the difficulties faced by many Cuban families in accessing basic medicines and other essential products.

Additionally, Resolution 212/2024, also included in the same edition of the Official Gazette, extends the authorization for the import of non-commercial power plants until the end of September 2024, initially granted in 2022 due to contingencies in the national energy system. .

The Cuban government has reiterated that these decisions are temporary and exceptional, as they are a response to urgent needs arising from the current economic and social situation in the country.
