Two alleged members of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ were prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office in Córdoba. The suspects, identified as Yefer Elian Bertel Urango, alias ‘El Monito’, and Miguel Ángel Ibáñez Hernández, alias ‘El Gago’, would have formed part of the military component of the Javier Yepes Cantero substructure.

The capture took place on June 26 in Puerto Nuevo, San Pelayo, during an operation by the National Police. In the raid, weapons, ammunition, cell phones and documents linked to the criminal organization were seized. Likewise, clothing was found that could be related to an attack on pharmacies in Cereté and San Pelayo that occurred in April, an incident that remains under investigation.

A prosecutor from the Córdoba Police Station charged the detainees with the crime of manufacturing, trafficking and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Both refused to accept the charges.

After the hearing, a guarantee control judge ruled differentiated security measures: Ibáñez Hernández will serve the measure in a penitentiary center, while Bertel Urango will do so under house arrest.
