The renunciation of having Henry Cavill as Superman by James Gunn for the DCU that he is building is still alive and well among some fans, very attentive to the statements of the filmmaker and other actors in the future Warner Bros. universe, especially in everything related to when it really The cinematographic reboot of the last son of Krypton began to take shape, to be released in 2025.

Did James Gunn always come to DC with Superman in mind?
These statements do not confirm that Gunn was already thinking about Superman: Legacy in 2021, but they did have some project in mind with the character, very similar to the director’s tone for anyone who has read Justice League International. However, on social networks it has been taken as James Gunn came to Warner Bros. to direct the film of The Suicide Squad always with the goal in mind of being able to take charge of a reboot of Superman without Henry Cavill despite having assured at that time that he refused to make a film of the hero. The filmmaker has now wanted to comment on the latter in Threads.
“I don’t really understand how that fits in. Other than the fact that I had no interest in running DC Studios until Peter (Safran) decided to hire me. (…) When I was hired to write Superman It was always intended and presented as a new Superman story. So why would I lie about not planning that at the TSS premiere, which at the end of the day would have been the same thing? “What’s the point of this conspiracy theory?”
As some fans of the franchise will remember, James Gunn was announced at the end of 2022 as the new chief creative officer of Warner Bros. & DC, just a few weeks after the film studio announced in style the return of Henry Cavill as Superman in which is now seen as a desperate maneuver to raise interest in Black Adam. The Superman movie, simply, will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
