The new installment of supermanfirst call Superman: Legacy and now simply supermanwill hit theaters on July 11, 2025, with James Gunn in the director’s chair (he is also co-executive director of DC Studios) and a new actor behind Clark Kent’s glasses and under the suit of the son of Krypton, David Corenswet.
Although the company had already published several details of the production, until now we had not seen the new Superman in his full suit. James Gunn himself has been in charge of sharing this first image on Threads that has spread like wildfire across all social networks.

In the photograph, Corenswet appears adjusting a boot, sitting in an armchair with his back to a large window behind which a large beam can be seen coming out of or heading to a sphere above what could be the skyscrapers of Metropolis.
The film is framed in the chapter one of the rebooted DC Cinematic Universecalled Gods and monsters and which will also include television series (the first of them, Creature Commandosis scheduled for the end of 2024).
This new Superman opens, as we said, a new stage in the future of DC Comics in the cinema after the unsuccessful and irregular previous attempt, with Gunn in charge after his time at Marvel.
A new stage
For those who fear seeing, again, the origins of the Man of Steel (his arrival on Earth, etc.) on the big screen, the company ensures that It won’t be an initiation story. and which will include, from the beginning, numerous characters (both heroes and villains) from the DC catalog.
Along with Corenswet, Gunn’s film will feature Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, The Blacklist) as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion like Green Lantern, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist) as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela as The Engineer, or Sean Gunn (James’ brother who already appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy).
As confirmed by the director, these actors will play these characters in other projects of the DC Universe, although there is still not much confirmed beyond the release date of this new Superman, which will arrive (not to mention the television adaptations) after that of Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and, above all, that of the longed-for Christopher Reeve.
