In an interview with the American media Entertainment Weekly, Shawn Levy, director of the film, explained how the unexpected appearances of certain characters were managed. The filmmaker commented that at no time did they have a kind of “wish list”, and that if these cameos appear it is because they are coherent within the story they are telling.
“I will say that we didn’t start with a wish list. From the day we started coming up with this Deadpool and Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, and not the other way around. Aaron and his return as Pyro was a consequence of that, and that applies to almost every character you’ll see in the movie.”
Levy knows very well that cameos are something that work quite well in the saga Deadpoolbut also recognizes that including too many meaningless characters can divert attention from the main plot, something that has been seen in other films full of guest stars.
Although he has revealed that there will be some unexpected appearances, the filmmaker has made it clear that it will not be a common occurrence in the film and that most of them will be in the right place and at the right time. Deadpool and Wolverine will hit theaters around the world on July 25, 2024.
