Renner suffered blunt trauma to the chest in January 2023 after a snowplow accident that ran him over.

“I just don’t have the energy for it. “I’m out of gas,” Renner said on the Smartless podcast, hosted by Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman. “I have a lot of fuel to put into this reality, this body, all these things. I can’t just play fantasy right now. Because it takes a long time to get here every day to be able to have a positive thought, to be able to progress, to be able to always continue growing.”

What it was like to return to acting for Jeremy Renner

The star of Mayor of Kingstown returned to acting to begin filming season 3 and admitted he was “very terrified,” adding: “Because I have to do something like, f***ing fiction? I’m still trying to live in reality, I’m trying to live. So it was a difficult line for me to cross. It was a great stretch. It was very, very challenging for me mentally to overcome that obstacle”.

He continued: “I still struggle with that sometimes and I don’t take it very seriously. I’m in a character that I can play very well and I know the show very well, so it was easy for me to get back into it. But if it was a very challenging role, I couldn’t have taken it. It’s not a challenge in the sense that, because the show is a challenge, but if I had to play Dahmer or something like that, something so far away from me.”

Renner will join Daniel Craig in the next installment of the saga Knives Out. The actor was recently cast in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mysterywhere he will also join Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close and Andrew Scott.
